LGBT+ Activism

Others stepped back, so we’re stepping up.

Background

2016 - 2019 was a high point for the Conservative party, in terms of progressing and advancing LGBT+ rights. We were trying to make amends for our past, by moving on from slogans to concrete actions. Prior to 2023, when the party didn’t go far enough, It would be criticised by LGBT+ members. When a member of our party made horrific, extreme or disgusting comments on LGBT+ people, they would be condemned. If the party would have regressed on LGBT+ rights or used LGBT+ people as an electoral tool in a negative way, it would have been criticised. We never would have stood by as trans people were thrown under the bus or made into a culture war. Now, total silence.

In January & July 2024 and April 2025, big flashpoints for how the party was on LGBT+ rights, it was me who spoke up and spoke out, with no support from those who should have. I am just a member, but I can’t say silent when I feel in my bones that something is so unjust or wrong. I’ve never always got it right, but I’ll always try to do better - because its not just who the party is at is core that is at risk, its who we are as a country being put at risk too.

Given the vacuum that now exists in defending all LGBT+ people within the party, I will fill the void and speak up for LGBT+ people and promote the advancement or rights and stand against the regression. But it takes more than one person to make a change in society, it takes a team - we can only do this united! If others in my party stand by and let it happen, I make this promise, I will not. I pledge to be loud, to be relentless in my pursuit of justice and to be unyielding - not giving a single inch when it comes to LGBT+ rights. But one person can’t do it alone, it requires all of us, together to fight, fight and fight even more.

It matters not your political party, but your values. If you are protecting LGBT+ rights, if you are advancing LGBT+ rights, if you are pro-love, let’s work together - I’ll work with anyone from any party to achieve this, because what is right matters more than anything else, protecting LGBT+ people (particularly trans people right now, matters the most.
